How To Build Packaging

04/20/2019

For the Packaging of our product, we wanted to produce a packaging that was eco-friendly but also sturdy enough to transport the water bubbles. We came up with two different ideas; one that can be made at home and another that can be mass produced in a factory...

How to Make an at Home Packaging

Materials:

  • Standard egg carton

  • Compostable bags

  • Heating tool

  • Water bubbles (from above procedure)

Procedure

  1. Obtain a recycled egg carton (cardboard) [12 inches long, 4 inches wide and 2 ¾ inches deep] (find at any grocery store)

  2. Obtain compostable bags [17.7 inches x 16.9 inches, link to buy, Amazon.com)

  3. Place 12 water bubbles (from what you made above) into the compostable bag. They should not all be at the bottom, rather all placed flatly in the bag with none stacked on top of each other.

  4. Carefully seal the open end of the bag with a hot tool (we used a straightener).

  5. Delicately place the bag into the carton, being careful to align each bubble into an egg slot.

  6. Close the carton and handle with care!

           3D Printed Model

Our Goal of Producing on a Large Scale

For the commercial production of our product we want to make all of our packaging out the sturdy, corn-based material that the 3D printer uses to print its objects. Since it would be costly to produce all of our packaging in the small 3D printer, our goal is to find a way to mass produce it in a similar way in a factory. The packaging is not only eco-friendly but is reusable and we hope to make a deal where if you back in the containers, you get a percentage off your next purchase.
